History of Espresso

espresso

Looking for a way to decrease his worker's coffee break time, Luigi Bezzera created the very first espresso machine in the early 1900s. Espresso has since undergone a great deal of refinement, and is now a highly coveted drink worldwide. Made by forcing pressurized, heated water through finely ground coffee, espresso contains a higher amount of dissolved liquids than coffee, resulting in richer flavor and higher caffeine content. While the making of a good espresso drink is a complicated process; enjoyment of a good espresso drink is one of life's simple pleasures.
Developed in Milan, Italy, the first espresso machine was built by Bezzera, the owner of a manufacturing business who decided that making a quicker pot of coffee was the perfect way to increase his employees' productivity. Bezzera's patent on this machine was bought in 1905 by Desiderio Pavoni, who thought the bitterness of the steam-produced coffee could be improved. Pavoni began experimenting with different water temperatures and pressures, and decided that the best flavor was produced at a pressure between eight and nine bars, and at a temperature of approximately 195 degrees Fahrenheit. Espresso makers as known today were introduced in 1947 when Gaggia offered the Gaggia Crème Caffe machine for commercial use. It was the first machine to force pressurized water through a bed of coffee that produced consistent results, and was easy to use and affordable for café owners. Although it took some time for espresso to reach the United States, finally reaching popularity in the 1990s, espresso has since become a beloved drink of coffee enthusiasts. Because it mixes so well with different products, there seems to be an espresso drink to fit anyone's taste. As more and more coffeehouses pop up all over the country, we can only assume that espresso enjoyment will continue to flourish. After all, in a society devoted to work, espresso, which was originally designed to increase productivity, is quite fitting.

Green Tea Helps Prevent Arteriosclerosis and Cancer

Researchers at the University of California have also found both oolong and green tea to help prevent arteriosclerosis, which leads to heart disease. Green tea has also been shown in many studies to prevent cancer, and to inhibit the development of pre-cancerous lesions as well. In one study published in 2004, women consuming green tea every day were found to have a 47 percent reduced risk of breast cancer compared to those consuming none at all. In another study published the same year, researchers found that men taking green tea each day had about a quarter of the risk of prostate cancer compared to those who took no green tea. Other research has found that increased green tea consumption appears to protect against other forms of cancer as well, including those of the stomach, colon, lung and skin.

Karaoke's Unexpected Effect

bill

Families in Gwinnett are enjoying  singing together at family entertainment spots like The Singin' Bean. Karaoke has been shown to  also plays a role as a place for family communication through singing. This is important at a time when generation gaps and family breakups are a nationwide concern. How?  The karaoke boom has spread abroad, enjoyed not only in Asia where it began but also in the U.S., and Europe. Since karaoke displays the words and scenes of a song on a monitor, it has also been attracting the attention of countries trying to improve their literacy rate, as a good educational tool and a great way to improved reading skills and self confidence in children. It is likely that karaoke, the entertainment industry born in a small night spot in Kansai, will continue to make further strides in both technological development and popularity.
It is said that since the popularization of records, radio, and TV, people have become passive receivers of entertainment. The advent of karaoke might help correct this phenomenon and make a great contribution to the history of musical entertainment.
